- "Quiet Series"? Compared to what--a KISS concert? I've used a lot of shopvacs in my day, this one isn't any quieter than any of other ones I've used. Using my sound meter, I measured 88 decibels at the end of the hose. A jackhammer is 90 decibels.
- The ring that secures the filter element to the motor housing frequently falls off. Once that happens, the room instantly looks like the scene inside a snow globe.
- During the first 10 seconds it is turned on, the motor whines and then stops. The problem is likely a bad bearing, so I don't expect this thing to last more than a year or two.
If I hadn't received this as a gift, it would have been promptly returned. I'm not likely to ever buy a ShopVac brand unit to replace it once it does die.

(More customer reviews)No matter who you are, your going to have something to clean up, weather its in your house, or in your shop/garage. Sometimes a household vacuum does not do such a bad job for cleaning up debris. However, other times, the suction of a household vacuum, is not up to the task. Another thing you need to keep in mind is if you have a flood, a household vacuum can not be used to suck up water, only a shop vac is designed to do that.
EXPERIENCE: My experience with this vacuum has been a good one. Like all vacuums, this one is made of plastic, however the caster wheel shafts are made of metal. This is the quiet version of the Shop Vac's, and thus is not as loud as the larger models. Though this vacuum does not include many accessories for it, it does include a gulper nozzle. And if you own another Shop Vac like I do, you can just use the accessories for it on this one.
You are not required to do so, but since I am using this shop vac in my house, I wanted to utilize the reusable dry filter. All you have to do Is align the circle pattern over the foam sleeve and then secure with the foam sleeve ring that is included with the vacuum. I attached a floor sweeper nozzle from the other shop vac and began vacuuming both of my rooms.
First thing I noticed was that this vacuum is at least 10-decbels quieter then that of my 10-gallon shop vac. And that is amazing too since they both use 2-HP motors! I like this, as the only thing that made me not like my other shop vac in the house, was how loud it was. I honestly feel like I need hearing protection for my older 10-gallon model.
Don't let the size of this vacuum fool you, it has a lot of suction power! It was able to clean both the bedrooms just as well as my larger model. The only bad thing I can say about it is, if you have any rugs that are 1/2" deep or larger, it will cause the shop vac to tip over when your pulling it, thus the internal ball will shutoff the suction flow. When this happens, you will have to turn off the vacuum, lift it up, wait for the ball to drop, and then turn it back on.
Just like with all shop vac's it has the ability to suck up water, I however have not tested this function. However, it does recommend that you not use the dry filter with it, only the foam sleeve. It also recommends not sucking up liquid with a dirty filter. However, since it has the same motor size, I wouldn't doubt it would suck up water just as good as my larger one. I however do not recommend you use these smaller vacs to do that, as you only have 5-gallons to work with. I highly recommend if you are buying a shop vac to pickup liquids, that you choose a 10-gallon model or larger.
CONCLUSION: These vac's are great for around the house because they are nice and small, take up little space. The vac has just as much power as the larger ones do, and the 5-gallon size is all you need for house chores. I find that it works really well for my uses and do not regret the purchase. It was on sale at my local hardware store for only $19.99, so I feel it was money well spent. 5 out of 5.

(More customer reviews)I received the Shop-Vac 5960700 today and was pretty much everything I expected. I like the unit's size, it's small but has a 6 gallon capacity, lightweight, not bulky, perfect height and width for storage, powerful suction especially for a smaller unit, very simple design, looks nice and is overall a great unit.
Here are the reasons I didn't give it 5 stars:
Honestly it's not what I'd call quiet, it may be a little "quieter" than past Shop Vac's which were notoriously loud but it's no where near what I'd call quiet and the noise is close enough to the average Shop Vac in my opinion.
The cord length is absolutely pathetic, it's just like a few feet, it should have been twice as long. I guess it's 6 feet as listed but I guess I didn't think of how short that really is. My house vacuum has a 24 foot cord. Even with the hose and extension attachments that gives you extra length you just can't go very far and is only good enough for one area where you can't vacuum your entire garage without an extension cord, maybe a about a quarter of a 2 car garage. I just think it should have had an 8 foot cord at an absolute minimum, an extra 2 feet could definitely help. 10 feet would make the Shop Vac a lot more useful.
Tool storage, the piece on the back only seems to hold 2 of the 3 extensions, not all 3 and the floor attachment can be attached to the bottom of one of the hose extensions. It also allows the cord to be wrapped around it. There is not really any kind of decent design to wrap and store the hose on it which was kind of a bummer. These are just simple things most people would expect.
Otherwise it's a great unit, works very well, it's not obnoxiously loud but it's still fairly loud. I tested it out and vacuumed part of my garage today, it sucked up little rocks no problem. I bought it also for the wet capability if water ever enters the house in potential flood situation aftermath cleanup.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for a specific job cleaning out heating ducts where there was some water leakage. I thought it would also come in handy for small spills around the house. I live in an RV, so size for storage was also important.
It does seem to have decent suction, but is somewhat awkward to use if you are not holding it as it is very top heavy and tends to fall over. I also found it difficult to empty, as I have arthritis in my hands and you must push in tabs with your thumbs and lift the motor off at the same time.
All in all, it does what it's supposed to do, but I would not recommend this product if you have any difficulty using your hands.

I took out my Vac and put it together, VERY simple, attached the wheels that slide onto unit and then can be secured with one screw, attached the hose,nested all my attachemnts in their place ON the vacuum, slid on the water filter sleeve(provided), set aside the dry filter (provided) and off to the backyard pond I went!!
This vacuum has a great big drain plug for easy draining!! no lifting and dumping water out with this one, great suction, emptied out my little pond in no time at all, worked great!!
Then the dog room, vacuumed up everything and maybe a few things I didn't mean too, this vac has some great suction so be careful when vacuuming close to an item your not trying to vacuum, some people may find the powerful suction a fault, I think it's great, it's a heavy duty vacuum, if you want something less powerful then perhaps use a house vacuum?? They also have numerous different attachments I found that have brush attachments that will help ease the powerful suction when vacuuming say your rugs or car,You may want to consider this if you plan on using this for either of those purposes. It's on my list for future purchases.
Then it was time to blow out the garage and clear the leaves and dirt off the driveway. So easy!! one push of the button and you just lift the blower right off the vac, put on your attachments and you got yourself a blower. It's handle is easy to hold and the unit itself is not heavy, I was skeptical when I ordered this vac that the blower would not be powerful enough but I am happy to say I am very pleased with the power and it's suprisingly quiet(as far as blowers go)you would not need any type of earplugs while using this unit.
I am giving this unit a well deserved 5 stars, if your looking for a great vac with a little extra (detachable blower) then give this one a try,I think you'll be pleased with what you find.

Indeed you can go without the filter bag, but its quite messy as others have mentioned. At Shop Vacs own site 2 packs of bags (four total) with the cheapest shipping will set you back$27.00!

(More customer reviews)I have this unit and am very pleased with it. The big 6 plus hp. motor pulling into the little 10 gallon tank make this the "hot rod" of portable vacuum units (as far as I am aware). I don't know of any competitive unit that will move 185 cfm of air. I bought this unit at about the same time I placed a new 650 cfm dust collector in service. My objective was to get a portable unit with enough muscle to be used in lieu of the larger dust collector for brief periods. The Shop-Vac 925-45-10 does this admirably. It pulls from my table saw, 6" jointer or 12" planer - not as well as my dust collector, but very respectably, nonetheless. I rated this unit only four stars because the motor is not serviceable. When a Shop-Vac motor burns out, our local factory authorized repair facility recommends trashing the entire unit and starting over again! Baloney! Why do I want to throw away a perfectly good stainless tank, dolly system and attachments? Before I settled on this unit, I looked seriously at the DeWalt models; I like their quiet operation and serviceable motors, but DeWalt doesn't publish a cfm spec. on their units and when I sent a message of inquiry - stating what I hoped to be able to do with the machine - I was politely ignored. So much for a sale that they might have had! Noise attenuation is another factor that's important to me and this model of Shop-Vac is at least respectable in this regard. Many mfgrs. still market older model designs with screaming motors; these are not acceptable to me at any price! The foregoing details the reasons why I'm a happy owner of a Shop-Vac 925-45-10. This is my fourth shop vacuum unit; I'm something of a "neatnik" and have worn out three other machines. Factoring in that experience, as well, I believe it's an outstanding machine for the money, and within the reservations I've described, gladly recommend it to anyone.

I have an old 2.0 HP Shop VAC I have been wanting to replace with something more powerful.
You would think this Stanley should blow it out of the water with 5.5 HP. It doesn't.
The old 2.0 HP Shop VAC had better suction than this pricey Stanley. Not to mention the Stanley still
maintains the same narrow 1.25 inch pickup hose which becomes an issue when it gets clogged.
I re-boxed the Stanley and am seriously considering returning it and getting my [...] bucks back. Total
low end junk vac despite the fancy stainless steel. I'm going to be buying a Craftsman or Ridgid.

In other words, the pump doesn't allow you to continuously wet-vacuum. Instead, once the drum is full, you turn the vac off, turn on the pump and empty the drum. Still, it's better than turning off the vac, unplugging it, and wheeling it over to a drain, and then pushing it back to where you need to work. And if you don't have a floor-level drain the pump would be a huge boom.

Dayton 3VE22 Wet/Dry Vacuum Review

Since then I've the opportunity to use several other brands as well, none of which come close the the performance and especially the durability of a Dayton. The Dayton motors are built primarily with the 'professional' in mind, so for the residential user this is a added plus.
I've used this model for 14 hours straight; sucking up everything from floor stripper to gravel/dirt and saw dust to irritating little Hack berries off of my trees (picture thousands of pea sized berries that are hard as rocks).
One of the things that set a Dayton apart from other brands like Shop-Vac or Ridged, is the quality of the casters. The wheels themselves are a heavy nylon/plastic, but the axle and axle housing are steel, which is also attached to a thick steel pin that slides easily into a hole on the bottom of the unit. The vacuum itself is also a nylon based plastic, but it's very thick. The dense plastic they use reminds of stuff counties use for their big public trash bins you see on the streets.
It's unbreakable unless you took a saws-all to it. When you get into the 'zone' after hours of cleaning with a wet/dry vac, doing things like pulling the unit around by the hose is common. The units are tough enough, so that the hose can easily act as the handle.
This vac even took a tumble of of my porch roof. My Great Dane ran under the ladder, caught the cord and down my vacuum went. About a 10 foot drop on it's side, but it did nothing but scuff it!
Scared my Dane to death, but he's OK to.
Even though this model doesn't say anything about using it as a blower, the hose can be removed from the intake and attached to the exhaust port and used a blower. It's not like using a stand-alone blower, but it gets the job done nicely for shops and around smaller outdoor areas. It's also perfect for automobile interiors.
Basically, when you purchase a Dayton 'like this model' you will have it forever. There just isn't anything else made of this quality, in this price range that comes close.
